All Saints, Appleton Roebuck

 An interesting church with an unusual clock , but no war graves.
 

There is a headstone in the style of the commonwealth war graves commission stones, for S3501202, Mills, Peter Wilfred, Chief Technician RAF (Rtd.), 31st March 1978.

St. John the Evangelist, Healaugh

Sited atop a hill with commanding views over the York countryside. No war graves present.

St. James', Bilbrough

No war graves present.

All Saints, Ryther

I had almost missed this one, tucked away behind a farm.

No wargraves present. However, there is a private memorial to a Hamilton Maule Cole R.N., lost at sea on HMS Leopard off Belize.

St. Helens, Skipwith

Actually visited during the summer, the details were misplaced.

Only one headstone carried any noticeable military connection, but from the details it is uncertain if this is infact a wargrave as such. The marker in this case is for a Jason Wayne Roughley, served with the Life Guards, and dated 24th November 2009.  I suspect his loss was not on active service, a preliminary search of records for Afghanistan does not list him.

St. Edward The Confessor, Brotherton, and municipal cemetery

The churchyard here has no extant wargraves, but there is a prominent memorial close by. Across the road from the church is a very overgrown area of graveyard, but this again has no wargraves.

A little further up the hill from the church is the municipal cemetery. Here a single war grave can be located.

St, Jame's, Fairburn

Fairburn was once a little known hamlet passed by without notice by the many travelers on the A1, but since the rerouting of the A1 some years ago, it is a peaceful quiet village. The church has an information board with local history by the main gate. This board talks of a WW1 soldier killed in an accident near the local pub. Whether this is the same soldier Lazenby listed below is unclear.
